Originally designed by renowned Danish architect and designer Poul Henningsen in 1958, the PH 5 has become one of Louis Poulsen’s most recognisable designs and an icon of Danish lighting.
Introduced in 2026, the PH 5 Opal offers a fresh interpretation of this much-loved classic. The familiar sculptural silhouette is reimagined in a slightly translucent, glossy opal material, allowing light to gently pass through the shades. The result is a softer, more diffused and atmospheric glow, while retaining the comfortable, glare-free light at the heart of Henningsen’s original design.
The PH 5 Opal is also presented in a new, more compact Ø320 mm size, faithfully scaling down the proportions of the original PH 5. Its smaller scale makes it particularly suited to smaller dining tables and intimate spaces, or it can be used in multiples above larger tables and kitchen islands.
Combining the timeless character of the original PH 5 with a new expression of light, the PH 5 Opal brings a softer and more contemporary feel to one of Louis Poulsen’s most enduring designs.
